Description

Buddha means "Awakened one" or "Enlightened one. Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, in Sanskrit, or Siddhattha Gotama, in Pali, was a spiritual teacher from ancient India and the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha image portrays the traditional figure of the meditative Yogin, transcendent in his mental powers yet very much a part of this world. Many a time, he is surrounded by images of radiance and abundance, the sun disc and the trees, and supported by lions, emblems of his royal position. While his placement atop a lion throne, and the presence of two attendants holding chowries, serve to emphasize his regal position, at the same time, his Yogic posture, humble robe and gestures of reassurance embody the spiritual nature of his message. This image remained the primary source for subsequent figures of Buddha through Asia. One of the consistencies of Buddhist art in India was the retention of this essentially human image, even when it was surrounded by an array of figures and images of wealth and abundance.

5This Bud-dha's for You  Jul 12, 2008
I find it interesting that as a Spiritual Counselor, I often "attract" clients who are almost always going through the same things that I am going through. Maybe it's not all that interesting. Maybe that's just how it is in this human journey. Maybe there are just a lot of actors but only one script.

Like most of us, I forget that the real reason why I am really here is to awaken to the Truth of my Being and that's why I keep a lot of reminders around me; certain people, books, and especially artwork and in that particular category I have a lot of statues of various dieties and this particular statue of Buddha is one of my favorites.

Some of you may say, "But that's a graven image and it says in scripture 'Thou shalt not have any graven images'." To me, a graven image is a thought of something other than God. So, if I have thoughts such as, "I am weak", "I am powerless", "I am stupid", etc. those are graven images because they are replacing God's thoughts about me and contrary to what some people might think, God's Thoughts are always and in all ways much, much better than Human Thoughts. Spirit doesn't think like us. Spirit thinks like Love, Peace, Compassion and this little statue reminds me that when I take the time to be still and empty myself of the world - even if but for a little while - those Original Holy Thoughts can more easily and readily resurface so that I can once again know that even though my life may look chaotic and disorderly, there is at the center of all of all of it, "the Peace that passes understanding".

Even with all of that being said, even if you think that all that I said above is just a bunch of "New Age" doo doo, just having this particular statue in your home can provide you with a unconscious reminder that peace is possible and maybe one day you'll be embroiled in the mess you call your life and you'll happen to look across the room and see this little brass statue just gently reminding you of something that is within you.

And that is the real reason I keep reminders around me as much as possible; not to know that things such as Love, Compassion, Peace, and Light were not just possible to Buddha, Jesus the Christ, Saint Francis of Assissi, and others - but they are possibilities within me...within me NOW at this very moment...that I do not have to wait until I leave this world to transcend and transform, I can do so now and it's all in my willingness to choose once again.

Whether or not you purchase this little "reminder" is not the point of this review, the point is to watch very carefully what you are allowing yourself to envision because what you see is what you get. Be willing to see things from higher, deeper, calmer perspective and that is what you will experience - even if but for a little while.

Peace & Blessings,
john, "the Light Coach"
