| | Description | Buddha means "Awakened one" or "Enlightened one. Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, in Sanskrit, or Siddhattha Gotama, in Pali, was a spiritual teacher from ancient India and the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha image portrays the traditional figure of the meditative Yogin, transcendent in his mental powers yet very much a part of this world. Many a time, he is surrounded by images of radiance and abundance, the sun disc and the trees, and supported by lions, emblems of his royal position. While his placement atop a lion throne, and the presence of two attendants holding chowries, serve to emphasize his regal position, at the same time, his Yogic posture, humble robe and gestures of reassurance embody the spiritual nature of his message. This image remained the primary source for subsequent figures of Buddha through Asia. One of the consistencies of Buddhist art in India was the retention of this essentially human image, even when it was surrounded by an array of figures and images of wealth and abundance. | |

Buddha bust Jan 16, 2009
This is one of rare kind of sculptures, showing only face and bust. I find the sculpture quite clean as most part of the bust is kept without any carving design. Just a bit of design of clothes on side of the shoulder, makes the statue look elegant. The facial design is a mix of Indian and Nepali styles, relying more on sharpness.

Incredible Brass Figure of Buddha Jun 05, 2008
An incredible brass figure of Buddha in deep meditation. There are intricate engravings that highlight the features of this figure, most remarkable being the patterns on the shawls spread over the shoulders of the man, showing leaves, mountains, and simple geometri patterns. An interesting feature is the piked helmet resting on top of Buddha's head, with spherical shapes arranged all round the central pike. The brass especially looks great. It's clean, brilliant, and shining. It is absolutely a great decoration to have in one's room.
